Hey mang! I bought this on impulse, and I thought of some awesome questions for you: 1) How does real-life battery life compared to the 1000H *? Is it better with a different operating system like Ubuntu? 2) If the LCD backlight power-hungry part of this laptop, given its size and the fact that LED? Will 3) Ubuntu need heavy configuration that works fully on this thing? 4) Are the aluminum parts from solid aluminum, or it is only a veneer is subject to evil? Thanks, 5 * s

    HELP!
My Kingston 2GB DDR2 RAM just arrived.
I installed it according to the video instructions. Fairly simple.
I powered on the ASUS and nothing happens.
Checked the connection again, seems fine.
    ASUS would not power on.
Replaced back the original 1GB RAM, ASUS will not power on.
    What’s wrong?
    I bought the Kingston PC2-5300 667MHZ KVR667D2SO/2GR

Am i right in saying that there is no dvd rom drive, how did you install windows? did you have any trouble?

Because you installed the solid state drive does that mean that the battery life should be extended?

I changed the HD because I had a solid state hard drive to upgrade to. No moving parts, much faster access and read times.

  14. fmg420 March 10, 2010 1:32 am

Why do you have the HD?

Im often at work, I need to be able to get up and move and hear the phones. Earbuds not an option in that environment. Plus good speakers are important to me.

  22. zeavott March 10, 2010 6:02 am

That’s a great question. I did actually consider this an “upgrade” from the 1000H. For me, it just looks a lot better. It finally looks like something expensive (Sony vaio TZ. . . )

I can’t comment on speakers because mine came with a defect and I’m expecting a new unit from Asus in another 2 weeks or so. I’ve heard other users say that its the same as the 1000H but you should really consider using ‘earbud’ headphones for your netbook anyways.
