Fieseler Fi 156 Storch Demo 1938

Posted on March 16, 2010

In 1935, the RLM (Reichsluftfahrtministerium, Reich Aviation Ministry) put out the proposal for the brand new Luftwaffe aircraft (suitable for liaison, armed forces co-operation currently called Forward Air Control), as well as healing evacuation, as compulsory to multiform companies. Penned by arch engineer Reinhold Mews as well as technical executive Erich Bachen, Fieseler’s entrance was the many modernized in conditions of STOL performance, by far. A bound slat ran along the complete heading corner of the prolonged wings, whilst the trailing edge, desirous by progressing 1930s Junkers aircraft wing carry out aspect designs, together with the ailerons, was the hinged as well as slotted flap. The wings could be folded at the back of along the fuselage, permitting it to be carried upon the trailer or even towed solemnly at the back of the vehicle. The prolonged legs of the alighting rigging contained oil as well as open startle absorbers that dense about 450 mm (18 inches) upon landing, permitting the craft to set down roughly anywhere. In moody they hung down, giving the aircraft the coming of the really long-legged, big-winged bird, Hence the nickname, Storch. With the really low alighting speed the Storch mostly landed “at place” or even backwards, in box of breeze from without delay ahead. The initial Fi 156 V1 antecedent flew in the open of 1936. It was powered by the 180 kw (240 hp) inverted-vee Argus As 10C V8 engine, that gave the craft the tip speed of usually 175 km/h (109 mph), enabling the Storch to fly as delayed as 50 km/h (32 mph), take off in to the light breeze in reduction than 45 m (150 ft), as well as land in

Nice job, comparable jets until 1930 is a piston motor. Do we compare Wartungsfreundlichkeit? Fehleranfälligkeit? Construction costs? Shut off a simple flight computer in the JSF, and you have a multi-million-dollar brick. Stork? Compu what?! 1930 Design! If you operate a Harrier in the hard winter conditions in Russia w/o today’s snow and ice removal means Ausrà ¼ stung or at least 10 minutes of Aufwärmzeit, and it will be only möglich, take off like a normal jet. Free of charge the rudder of ice with something Kraft and Feuer the stork, loosely geht' s.

Maximum speed of about 105 km / h, STOL capability. The design is still under construction and copied today.

. . . a modern aircraft could simply do what you can do this level, and much, much more this thing is too slow to be practical

  21. TonyAirlines March 17, 2010 5:36 am

    I’d buy one.

What’s with the Shuttleworth narrator: “unsuccessful attempt to rescue Mussolini”?? “British mountain hideaway??”

Mussolini was being held by renegade Italian troops on the Gran Sasso mountain in ITALY. And the rescue was successful. So, WTF?

Certainly the best LiteObver. Bird to modern ultralites and also they do not können make, what könnte lil, bird. I believe, it was the first tru STOL bird.

I’ve read that with a hi performance engine fitted, it could generate static lift. , meaning standing still at full throttle, the prop blast created enough lift over the wing to allow the plane to go airborne with zero takeoff roll. Only other plane ever to do that was the Custer Channelwing (far as I know).
